Read Between the Lines

“Erase Wrinkles…”

“Flatten Your Tummy by Summer…"

“Everyone Can Look Cool…”

“Buy Perfume…”

“Sexy Hair in a Snap…”

“Glam…”

If all of these women can look like this…why can’t I? What is wrong with me? Do I not dress well enough? Am I not toned enough? How do I become glamorous?

Why do I need all of this?

  1. I really like this image and the message it conveys. We (women) are always looking to improve ourselves because of the standards of "what is beautiful" seen in magazines, on TV, etc. Unfortunately, in the materialistic world we live in, I don't think this emphasis on being "pretty enough," "skinny enough," etc. will ever go away, but what if we could all learn to embrace our individuality and appreciate it in others as well? That would be something beautiful.

  2. I really like the simplicity of the caption accompanying this photo. The quotes from magazines are recognizable and show how often we are bombarded with different ways to fix the many "flaws" we may have. Using a limited amount of text in the caption makes this picture more powerful.

  4. I really like the message that this image gives off to its viewers. It basically says all those tips to improve oneself are unrealistic and women especially should not be worried about what the magazine standards for beauty are. I think the text was what attracted me the most to this image, it was plain and simple yet rich in meaning.
